Congratulations to the MMS 2015 Teacher of the Year - Dr. Nancy Asher-Shultz, School Psychologist
eCYBERMISSION is one of several science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) initiatives offered by the Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP). Four Marlboro Middle School students submitted a project entitled “Bug Fuel - The New Biofuel.” The competition divides the US into 5 regions. We are in the largest region (NE) which includes 14 states. Our students won $1000 savings bond each for winning first place in the state. They also won another $1000 each for having one of the 3 highest scores in the region. Awesome!
Congratulations to the MMS Baseball Team - 2015 Shore Intermediate League Champions! Amazing season!
On May 1 & 2, the Griffin Orchestra performed at the Music in the Parks Festival in Hershey, PA. They earned a rating of Superior with a score of 95 out of 100 and finished in First Place among middle school string orchestras. In addition, they received the Best Overall Orchestra award for the entire junior high/middle school orchestra division. The Griffin Orchestra is composed of 6th, 7th and 8th grade students from both Marlboro Memorial and Marlboro Middle Schools.
Congratulations to the MMS New Jersey History Day State Qualifiers who competed at William Paterson University on May 2. One of our 8th grade students will be representing New Jersey in the National Competition. Way to go!
On April 22, 2015, approximately 600 students from over 15 middle schools were in attendance at the annual NJ-TSA (Technology Student Association) Middle School State Conference at The College of New Jersey. Thirty-two (32) students from Marlboro Middle School competed in 13 competitions. Award winners from MMS are as follows:
- 3rd place, Prepared Speech
- 2nd place, Problem Solving
- 2nd place, Flight
- 1st place, Video Game Design
- 1st place, Website Design
The Marlboro Middle School Show Choir and Jazz Band participated in the Heritage Music Festival in Annapolis, Maryland, from April 17-19, 2015. Seventy-seven students were in attendance. Both groups performed extremely well and were recognized for their musicianship, spirit, kindness and behavior. The Jazz Band received the Silver Award and the Show Choir received the Gold Award.
Two student teams have received Honorable Mention in the Toshiba ExploraVision science competition. Toshiba recognizes teams that score in the top 10% of all entries. A representative from Toshiba visited MMS on April 1, 2015 to recognize the students.
On March 14, 2015, 4 members of the MMS Math Club team competed at the New Jersey State MathCounts competition at Rutgers University. One student placed 5th in the written competition and the MMS team placed sixth in the team competition.
